How I Learned to See
Inside the moment. At eye level.
With family roots stretching from my mother’s hometown of Belize City, Belize, to my father’s roots in Texas—and a life built in Los Angeles—my perspective has been shaped across cultures, communities, generations, and different ways of seeing the world.
That perspective influences how I photograph people. It taught me to notice relationships, expressions, gestures, humor, joy, tension, and the humanity that can disappear when a story is only documented from the outside.
Not from the margins.
Not looking down on the moment.
But inside of it. At eye level.
That way of seeing is not a boundary around who Blacklight photographs. It is the creative advantage I bring into every room, across industries, communities, and assignments.
The Question That Started Blacklight
Who is documenting this from the perspective of the people actually living it?
Blacklight Imaging took shape during the Los Angeles demonstrations in 2020. I watched news crews photograph people from above and from the edges of the experience while I was working at eye level, close enough to understand what was unfolding between the obvious frames.
That question stayed with me. Blacklight Imaging grew from the instinct to enter a room with care, stay close to the human experience, and create images that hold both context and beauty.
Today, the company applies that philosophy to events, brands, organizations, entrepreneurs, culture, community, and campaigns.
